San Telmo

Plaza Dorrego, Buenos Aires, 1064

The Basics

As one of Buenos Aires’ most colorful and quirky neighborhoods, San Telmo features on just about every sightseeing tour, along with La Boca, the Obelisk, La Bombonera soccer stadium, Plaza de Mayo, and Puerto Madero.

San Telmo is also one of the best places in town for dinner and a tango show. For something more casual, stop at one of the cafes surrounding Plaza Dorrego to take in the sights and sounds, including a possible impromptu tango performance right on the street.

Great way to get an intro to Buenos Aires
Ride was mostly along trails which felt safe and well planned. Our guide was engaged and had shared her knowledge and some history of Buenos Aires. A great way to start your visit to the city to get your bearings and learn some important info (like don’t visit Boca in the evenings). The ride through the preserve was dusty and “meh” as not much in the way of wildlife you can see.

Buenos Aires Bike Tour: San Telmo and La Boca Districts
This bike tour was sensational. It was great to get in there amongst the real Buenos Aires under the guidance of a local. Our guide , whose name unfortunately escapes me right now, was interesting, knowledgeable and gave us useful tips on safety and places to go. We would definitely recommend this tour.

I highly recommend this experience with German. We ate at quintessential BA foods at excellent local restaurants with German providing background and insight. He was a great host and we never felt rushed.

Great value. The 3 hour tour was relaxed and covered some of the main tourist spots plus the eco park which was a first for me. Great tour guide plus I was the only participant so went at my pace. Flat roads and no hills. A couple of difficult roads with unfriendly traffic. Bike are a simple fixed wheel city type bike with basket and comfortable padded seat. Helmet provided.

Buenos Aires Bike Tour: San Telmo and La Boca Districts
Highly recommended! We are two 70 year olds who have never biked in traffic so we were a little apprehensive about this trip but it was a highlight of our time in the city. A wonderful variety of stops and we learnt so much about the history of the south.

Buenos Aires Bike Tour: San Telmo and La Boca Districts
This bike tour of San Telmo and La Boca was everything I had hoped it to be ... a casual cycle through two of Buenos Aires most popular neighbourhoods. As it turned out, I was the only one on the tour so had the guide to myself. The guide was on time and very knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this tour.

Bike ride gives you a very different perspective than a tour bus. We thoroughly enjoyed the bike ride tour. Much more verbal explanation of area and you can stop and explore, too. My husband and I were the only ones on the tour but the guide still took us everywhere on the tour. The ride was on level ground and very easy to do.

Very fun time and a great way to see BA and get in some exercise as well! I hadn't rode a bike in maybe 20 plus years, but it was the best and the group of guides were some nice guy's! I love BA and the great people and this tour as well! Fun times!

When to Get There

If possible, try to visit San Telmo on a Sunday when the Plaza Dorrego antiques market is in full swing and tango buskers are performing for onlookers. The neighborhood has a completely different vibe after dark, so it’s a good idea to plan a couple of visits.
