Magical Day

Absolutely hands down the BEST tour for a great day in New Orleans. This was my second time visiting Oak Valley Plantation. The shuttle ride with Ms. Barbara was filled with great stories of her experiences as a Louisiana native. Our Swamp Boat Tour was magical. Our boat captain stopped to feed the 'gators marshmallows. It was amazing day. I highly recommend this tour.

A bit rushed, but lots of fun!

This was lot of fun. We were picked up at our hotel at around 8:30 then transfered to another bus. Our first stop was the swamp tour. Our boarding time was 9:45. We learned a lot from our tour guide, and we got to see a ton of alligators, as well as some turtles basking in the sun. We also got a photo op with a little baby alligator! The facilities were a bit crowded on the dock (the restrooms, mostly), and the gift shop was overpriced. (Save your money for the Oak Alley gift shop.) We were back at the dock just before 11:30, at which point we drove for around an hour and a half to Oak Alley Plantation. Be warned that on busy days like ours, there could be up to a 15 minute wait for the house tour, which does cut into the free time to explore the property. We arrived after 1:00 and were able to catch the 1:45 tour, which took around 30 minutes. We only had until 3:00 to see the rest of the plantation, which felt rushed. Perhaps an extra 30 minutes to an hour would've been perfect to see the sights and learn some history in a more relaxed pace. That said, the house was full of history, and the oak trees were a magnificent sight. Don't skip the exhibit on the life of the enslaved community on the plantation. This is a part of American history that we all need to recognize: our nation was built with the blood, sweat, and tears of Black people. The gift shop and bar were fantastic and well priced, and while there was no time to eat at the restaurant, the deli food made for a good snack. The ride back to New Orleans takes about an hour and a half. Our driver was very accommodating and let us get off in the French Quarter instead of our hotel. All in all, the tour was worth it. Our expectations as they relate to the description on this page weren't fully met; the timeline especially needs to be updated. Still, we had a good time and made lots of good memories!

Great

I thought the swamp tour was excellent. Captain Ernie was great. The plantation tour was great but not enough time was allotted to see everything. The one negative thing I can say was it took 25 minutes of sitting on the bus while the driver had to collect payment from some people. If she would have done that at the mansion those that had prepaid would have had more time.

Oak Alley/Bayou

Our bus driver to Oak Alley was informative. The actual tour was short. Our bayou tour was not as expected. There were guests on the tour that “took over the tour” and the captain just ended up having conversations with that group.

Beautiful plantation! I enjoyed learning about the history. I thought the house tour could have been a little better.

I’m not sure where to start. Everything was amazing. From the pickup to the comfort of the buses to the tour themselves. I loved the oak alley tour. It was an educational experience. I also loved the swamp tour, especially touching the baby gators and feeding the gators. It was awesome. I would highly recommend!!
