A relaxed day tour!

The tour is nice and relaxed. The Oak Alley plantation visit is nice, it would be better to have a little more time off at the end and arrive a little later to New Orleans, in order to enjoy lunch, the gardens and other exhibits. The swamp boat tour is done in a larger vessel than I expected (not an air boat), but it's also nice!

There wasn’t enough time...
Molly_B
, Nov 2021
There wasn’t enough time to eat at the plantation unless it was a quick to go meal. The airboat was not the open airboat but a covered boat. However it was still an fun experience and the customer service was extremely accommodating since we had gotten on the wrong bus to start the day. The tour guides knew their stuff and were very friendly.

Thank you for the positive feedback, Molly. Our reservation system states that you booked the Oak Alley and Swamp Boat through the third party, Viator, which is the covered boat that you were on. We were just going by the information sent over to us from Viator.

Learning that the slaves could buy their freedom, and seeing the poor conditions they lived in. Very sad.

We had so much fun! Definitely worth it all around. Our driver told and showed us all about Katrina too. My husband held a baby alligator on the swamp Tour!

A great tour if you have the day.

Overall, this was a really good full day tour. Our driver, Barbara, kept us entertained and informed with her knowledge of New Orleans and her experiences with Katrina. This is important, because the bus time is about 2 hours total. Two hours at Oak Alley is plenty to do the house tour (do this first!) explore the grounds and slave quarters, and eat lunch. The fried green tomato blt's are great. Our tour of the house gave a decent overview of the plantation, and the self-guided tour of the slave quarters filled in the gaps. We chose the covered boat option for the swamp tour, which was a better choice. Captain Ernie was funny, very knowledgeable about the bayou and alligators, and made this portion of the trip special. Be prepared...this is a full day tour, and definitely bring water!

We enjoyed our entire experience! Definitely recommend you take cold bottled of water and snacks as there was limited time in the morning to grab anything while at the swamp tour.

Magical Day
Leah_G

Absolutely hands down the BEST tour for a great day in New Orleans. This was my second time visiting Oak Valley Plantation. The shuttle ride with Ms. Barbara was filled with great stories of her experiences as a Louisiana native. Our Swamp Boat Tour was magical. Our boat captain stopped to feed the 'gators marshmallows. It was amazing day. I highly recommend this tour.
