Make your way to your morning or afternoon swamp adventure in Slidell, Louisiana. Here, find Honey Island Swamp, a wildlife preserve that is one of the last protected wetlands in Louisiana. Board the custom‐made, open‐air boat and set off on an educational ride. Holding a max of 22 passengers, this boat offers a more intimate experience as your group quietly winds through narrow swamp passages and gets you closer to native wildlife.

Your expert guide’s commentary makes this an unforgettable wildlife‐spotting expedition through myth‐laden Louisiana terrain. Glide along the water, viewing the lush greenery and abundance of wild animals, including alligators, owls, raccoons, snakes, black bears, bald eagles, and wild boar. True animal enthusiasts will love getting an up‐close (and interactive) look at some of the ‘friendlier’ animals. Get great photos and learn more about the famous regional alligator, who can tip the scales at 1,000 pounds (453 kg). Also learn about the culture and ingenuity of the Cajun people who have—for more than two centuries—inhabited this area and used it as a source of food and medicine. Your guide takes you by a secluded Cajun village that can only be accessed by boat. Throughout the ride, hear stories about the bayou lifestyle, as well as information about the region’s passionate wetland preservation efforts.

Your fun and enlightening boat tour returns to Slidell. This tour does not include transport to or from New Orleans.
Pass By:
Lake Pontchartrain
From New Orleans, take a short drive to Slidell and you'll reach Lake Pontchartrain and the Honey Island Swamp, a wildlife preserve that is one of the last protected wetlands in Louisiana.
Stop At:
Honey Island Swamp
Your guide welcomes you aboard a custom-made 22-passenger flat-bottom boat. The smaller sized, quiet boat can fit through narrow passages in the swamp foliage so that you see more and get closer to wildlife. It’s the ideal way to take in the lush environment of Cajun country. As your guide explains the history of Louisiana’s wetlands and swamp ecosystem, be on the lookout for resident wildlife including alligators, raccoons, owls, wild boar, nutria, snakes, turtles, black bears, bald eagles and many other bird species. Get a close look at some wild gators as your guide shares facts about the toothy beasts, who can weigh up to 1,000 pounds (453 kg). Their ancestors once roamed the earth with the dinosaurs and scientists estimate that they have existed for more than 150 million years. Glide safely through the fertile swamplands, learning about Cajun culture and how local people have utilized the swamp for food, homes, and medicine from your guide. You even see an authentic Cajun village that is only accessible by boat. Gain an understanding of why the wetlands are slowly disappearing and about the efforts being made to preserve Louisiana's natural treasures. After a fascinating 2-hour boat tour on Honey Island Swamp, your guide returns you to shore. You can then make your own way to your next destination.

This was a great adventure. The knowledge of the captains was impressive, also his comic remarks. We were told to not put your hands or anything over the rails but the gator was so close I could have. Will do this again.

No masks and social distance tour
, May 2021
ummm this is a no social distancing and no mask required tour. Literally 20 people on a boat siting side by side an inch away from each other... if you are that close, then I would think masks would be required... but guide and everyone on the boat did not adhere to the rules? Even though on this tour, it states you have to do these things.. I was a foot away from the guide who didn’t even have a mask...

Beautiful Evening

We opted to Uber/Lyft since we were staying at an AirBnB.. got in early enough to check in & check out their shop before the tour started. I would recommend scheduling a pick up so you're not stuck waiting after the tour is done. Drivers are scarce. Besides that, the tour was amazing! Our guide was funny & informative. We saw so many animals & different parts of the Bayou. Don't sleep on this one.. you won't wanna miss this tour

We saw far more wildlife than I ever imagined. We saw dozens of alligators of various sizes, wild boar, beautiful raccoons, snakes, owls and more. Our guide, Emmitt was amazing. He was professional, kind, funny and shared so much knowledge about the area and the wildlife. I could tell that he is so proud Of the beautiful state of Louisiana and he enjoyed sharing many facts about the area that I found interesting and entertaining.

The tour guide was so compassionate towards the animals. I thought it was so cute that they had given them names. He was also extremely knowledgeable on what foliage thrives in that environment and had so many good jokes !
