Return Details

Returns to original departure point
Choose a morning or afternoon tour and meet your airboat at the embarkation point in the town of Lafitte, an historic fishing village named for notorious 19th‐century pirate and privateer Jean Lafitte, located approximately 30 miles (48 km) from New Orleans. Prearranged coach pickup is also available from your downtown New Orleans or French Quarter hotel.

Upon arriving at the airboat launch site, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers. Hold on tight as you airboat takes off into the tidewater cypress swamp near Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Enjoy close proximity to the water from your seat in the flat‐bottomed airboat. As you zip through the bayou, check out signature cypress trees dripping with moss and massive tupelo‐gum tree rising straight from the water.

Depending on the season, you may spot alligators basking in sun on the shore or lurking in the water. Rest assured that the swamps are teeming with wildlife year‐round. Spot turtles, snakes, raccoons, nutria and many native birds –  you may even spot a bald eagle!

Your airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Before leaving this iconic Cajun town, pop into the local albino alligator exhibit or grab a delectable shrimp Po' boy to go (own expense). Then drive or board your coach back to New Orleans. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick‐up or drop‐off unless hotel pickup and drop‐off is selected at checkout. If you have selected hotel pickup and drop‐off please specify your hotel details at the time of checkout or advise the local operator directly after booking.
Itinerary
Pass By:
Mississippi River
Drive-out along the Mississippi River approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.
Stop At:
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve
Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees. Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording amazing photo opportunities. Keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators, including an albino alligator. Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless option selected at checkout.

Tic toc, our boat captain, was amazing. He showed us an eagle perched on branch next to a 4 foot nest, he feed raccoons and alligators. Then he kissed one ! What a great time we all had.

Bad Guest Service

We arrived at 9:50, tour was at 9:45. Other guest were standing on the dock when we arrived. I ran over and said to one of the boat captains, we have a reservation for 9:45, I had the details and confirmation on my phone to present. The boat captain said, go check in at the office. Ran over to the office told the guy, we had a 9:45 tour. He looked at me said, yeah they left. There were still boats at the dock. And that was it. We missed out on the fun and it cost me $110.

Richie was our tour guide and did an awesome job! We chose the small airboat which made the experience a lot of fun - we interacted with the others on the ride and we all had a great time! Saw a ton of alligators and the bayou was super cool. This tour was the highlight of our trip! Don’t miss it!!!

Our tour guide was awesome!!!!!! I was really excited to see all those gators. I was a little said that one of the gators was missing a leg. Overall, great experience! I forgot our tour guide’s name (I believe Dylan).

Swamp crack

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to New Orleans. We took the small airboat with pickup from our hotel and it worked seamlessly...so convenient. Great outdoor activity as we ease back into life as the pandemic wanes. Our tour guide was experienced and very knowledgeable about the area, including the wildlife. He got us up close with gators and racoons safely using swamp crack. Very exciting!

Our guide, Richie, was excellent. From his tanned bare feet to his gator bite scar on his hand he was the "real deal".

Our guide, Richie, was excellent. From his tanned bare feet to his gator bite scar on his hand he was the "real deal". Showing courtesy and care at all times he piloted the Air Boat with expertise and caution. We had ample time to shut down the motor and absorb the atmosphere and natural beauty of the bayou❤️ An added bonus was the hidey hole of racoons hanging out beside the gators! I will never look at a bag of marshmellows again without remembering Captain Richie of the Louisiana Bayou!
