Overview

Rich history and voodoo legends make New Orleans one of the most fascinating places to visit, but if you see the sights alone, you could miss out on some of the key details that bring this vibrant city to life. Choose from two options - the voodoo walking tour takes you through the city during daylight hours—perfect for those who don’t want to get too scared, but still want a look into the city’s mysterious past. The BYOB Cemetery Insiders option allows you to journey through three of New Orleans’ hallowed historical cemeteries. Bring your favorite beverage onboard the air-conditioned coach bus, and learn of the city's burial customs and traditions on your short drive to the cemeteries. While you pass through the aisles of tombs, you'll hear stories like one of thousands buried in the graveyard behind the Katrina Memorial. No matter which option you choose, you will leave you with feelings of trepidation and excitement, as well as an appreciation of New Orleans' incredible history.
  • Listen to your guide’s master storytelling as they dive deep into the city’s past
  • Learn the history behind above-ground burying and other New Orleans facts
  • Don't worry about getting lost with centrally located meeting points
  • Journey through three historical New Orleans cemeteries, if option chosen

Your journey through mystical New Orleans’ begins in the French Quarter. Choose a morning or afternoon start time and meet your friendly local guide for a narrated walk through the French Quarter. Discover the architectural diversity of the area as you pass French and Spanish‐inspired buildings, gorgeous Creole townhouses, ‘Entresol’ houses and shotgun homes. Catch a glimpse of a cloistered courtyard and hear of its utilitarian function.

As you stroll, enjoy tales of New Orleans’ voodoo history and peek into a small shop that specializes in voodoo ritual materials such as herbs, oils, and amulets. Hear more from your guide about a largely misunderstood religion that still enjoys a formidable presence in New Orleans.

Take a short break at the old train station. Then walk through Louis Armstrong Park where you visit Congo Square, a historical site from the 1800s. Here, slaves and free people met on Sunday to openly trade, socialize, play music, dance and practice voodoo rituals.

To see cemeteries from inside the gates with your favorite beverage in hand, choose the BYOB Cemetery Insiders option. You'll experience three of New Orleans’ historical cemeteries and learn of the city's unique burial traditions.

Please note that this tour covers about one mile of the city, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

I tried to cancel my tour by July 21st as per your requirements on your site, my tour was to be the 22nd period I was told it was too late when I called and that I would still be charged even though I could not make the tour.

Tour guide was great, but the van not so much
jackie
, Jul 2021
Tyler was a great tour guide and gave great new orleans recommendations. My only issue is the van. While the tour guide and patrons were in the cemeteries, the van mysteriously smelled like weed upon our return. The driver was the only person on the van. It was absolutely unacceptable to have risked our life for him to have a “jazz cigarette”. I paid way too much money for this tour to have to deal with that.

Great cemetery tour

The tour in the air conditioned bus was nice. Taylor is a great tour guide. I wish I would have known we'd be out in the sun for an hour so I could have worn sunscreen. But overall, it was great, and we learned a lot of interesting things about the cemeteries.

I canceled this at $5 per person because I chose the wrong date. It should be August 12th. I will call back to ensure this was done. I am sure it will be great when we do it!

A MUST FOR HISTORICAL BUFFS
SCRA
, Jul 2021
PROS: 1. TOUR GUIDE: Graham the tour guide seems to have a history degree as he delivered vital historical information in a funny, witty (dry, wry humour) way. I have been on 4 walking tours for New Orleans and since I am a history buff, I found that many of the guides gave inaccurate information that can easily be found from Youtube videos. I found that Graham's quality of information and suggestions for books were highly interesting (especially commentaries on the maroon colonies / settlements of the past, Creole plager system of mistressdom / left-handed marriages etc). 2. SHORT WALKING TOUR : Although it was only 1.5 hours in length, the walking part was not that much. There was a lot more commentary from Graham which I found interesting. 3. ORGANISED AND SAFE: Graham was very organised and kept the tour guests safe at all times, following proper protocols. CONS: 1. NOT FOR CHILDREN: If you have very young children, this is not the tour for them as they will be bored. This tour is not even for teenagers as they might also be bored. The information provided by Graham requires a keen interest in history. 2. NO CEMETERIES SEEN: Due to the cemetery ( # 1 ) being closed, we were not able to see any cemeteries / go inside. This was the biggest disappointment of the trip as it had details about seeing 3 cemeteries.
icon Response from Host , Jul 2021
Hi there! This tour states that we do not go inside any cemeteries. The cemetery insiders upgrade does go inside three cemeteries (you'll see the two options listed on the main page). I do apologize for the confusion, though. Glad you enjoyed your tour with Graham!
